Centralised Wastewater Pre-Treatment at Westfield Miranda

Westfield Miranda, one of Australia’s largest shopping centres, is undergoing a $400 million redevelopment with a strong focus on fresh food and dining. The expansion includes a premium outdoor restaurant precinct alongside a new Woolworths development, creating a major entertainment hub for the region. With the increase in food outlets, the site required an efficient and centralised wastewater pre-treatment solution capable of managing high volumes of oil, grease, and food scraps.

Hydroflux, in partnership with John R Keith Group, is installing two HyDAF GT systems. These automated, centralised pre-treatment DAF units are specifically designed to remove oil, grease, and solids from food precinct wastewater before discharge.

The installation includes a 2 x GT-DAF60 unit, which provides the treatment capacity of more than 10 conventional grease arrestors in a single system. By centralising treatment, the HyDAF GT avoids the significant cost, energy, and space requirements typically associated with traditional grease traps and distributed DAF systems.

The Hydroflux GT DAF has been designed exclusively for retail complexes and has minimal operational requirements.

The Results

The new pre-treatment system will deliver:

  • Reliable removal of oil, grease, and food solids from multiple tenants
  • A single centralised system in place of multiple grease traps
  • Reduced operating costs and footprint compared with traditional systems
  • Long-term compliance and sustainability benefits for the redevelopment

Technology in Action

The HyDAF GT represents a new generation of centralised wastewater pre-treatment for retail and hospitality developments, ensuring reliable performance while reducing lifecycle costs.
