Modern Inlet Works Package Commissioned for Tannum Sands WWTP
January 22, 2026
Gladstone Regional Council operates the Tannum Sands Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) that is located in Queensland. The plant has a 15,000EP capacity with a Peak Wet Weather Flow (PWWF) of 195 L/s.
Hydroflux recently provided a complete set of inlet works equipment of a high efficiency design to replace the existing equipment which had reached end of life.

The existing site used step-type screens and based on the performance from our other similar sites, our HUBER Escamax® was selected to replace these screens. Escamax® uses a series of perforated panels that provides high screenings capture (UK WIR Test for 84%, 6mm) and physically resembles a step-type screen, which simplifies mechanical integration.
Hydroflux has provided Escamax® to numerous sites in Australia to upgrade older step type screen installations to a more higher capture design.
A new vortex grit removal system was installed together with a HUBER RoSF4 Advanced Grit Washing Plant, that washes and dewaters the grit to 90% dry solids. HUBER introduced the concept of fluid bed grit washing back in 90’s – we have some 30+ references across Australia and New Zealand for this technology.
The higher screening efficiency will reduce maintenance associated with the downstream process. The advanced grit washing facility will reduce offsite disposal and transport costs due to dryer grit content, and hence associated volumes of grit.
