High Performance Through Flow Band Screen for Port Douglas WWTP
January 13, 2026
Port Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in North Queensland processes approximately 4.9MLD of sewage, treating the effluent to a high-quality tertiary standard. Hydroflux provided the design, supply and commissioning of a HUBER Escamax® Screen and WAP Wash Press to replace the existing equipment that reached end of life.

HUBER Escamax® was selected due its high screening screen capture, proven references in Australia and ease of installation into the existing channel.
Project Highlights
- Peak flow of 160 L/s
- 5mm perforations
- Simple retrofit to existing channel to replace step type screen equipment
Technology Highlights
- High screening capture of 84% (UK NSEF certified)
- Less than 250mm headloss
- Intermittent operation based on water level
- All stainless steel fabrication
- Coupled to a horizontal screw wash press for screenings washing and compaction
- Reduced offsite disposal volumes due to the wash press process
- Proven in Australian installations
HUBER’s Escamax® is a through flow band screen that uses a series of perforated screening panels that provide high screening efficiency. Escamax® is perfect for retrofit into existing inlet works, and Hydroflux has many references for this. The units are available a wide range of sizes with capacities ranging from 30 through to >2500L/s.
